After several years of progressively intensive planning, the visit of the Coral Encantos singing group to Virginia became a reality. On October 19, 21 members of the internationally renowned Coral Encantos singing group from Florianópolis (plus one spouse) arrived at Washington Dulles Airport where they were met by Virginia Partners and put on a reserved bus to Richmond to begin their 10 day program of visits and performances at venues throughout Virginia. At most locations home stays were arranged with Partners and friends, intercity transportation was arranged with the Winn Bus Company and Partners managed intracity transportation using personal cars. This all took a huge amount of coordination and planning which was accomplished with only the slightest snags. Their performances were uniformly marvelous, and many friendships were made with everyone involved at every location.
Their itinerary included concerts at venues in Richmond, Hampton, Farmville, Roanoke and Fall Church, plus several impromptu performances. At every location they were given socializing and shopping opportunities and local tours, including, while in Northern Virginia, a tour of Washington and the U.S. Capitol.
All performances at each venue were very well done and most appreciated by those in attendance. The Coral Encantos members fostered many new friendships and the hope is that this will lead to more visits north and south in the future.
